HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - An Oahu grand jury today indicted a 31-year-old man in connection with separate sex assaults on two women in Downtown Honolulu, Prosecuting Attorney Keith M. Kaneshiro announced.
Reginald Johnson, who has no local address, was charged with two counts of sex assault in the third degree. Sex assault in the third degree is a Class C felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
The indictment alleges that Johnson assaulted the women on January 29, 2015, and April 29, 2015. Both incidents took place at about 8 a.m., the first on South King St., near Fort Street Mall, and the second on Bishop St., also near Fort Street Mall.
"From a public safety standpoint, it was critical to identify, arrest and charge the defendant as these assaults took place along busy Downtown streets in broad daylight," Kaneshiro said.
In both incidents, Johnson approached the women as they were walking, struck up conversation and then asked for their phone number. When the women refused and walked away, Johnson grabbed them, kissed them and groped them.
Both women reported the assaults to Honolulu police and provided descriptions of their attacker. Police arrested Johnson on May 6, 2015.
Johnson is being held in lieu of $11,000 bail.
