Tjaden leaves lasting impact at UH

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Four seniors on the University of Hawaii softball team were honored on Saturday, among them was a team member who never played an inning in Manoa but who has accomplished more than anyone every expected of her.

At sixteen years old Justine "TJ" Tjaden was diagnosed with Lemierre's syndrome, a disease which caused blood clots to develop throughout her body, and took her away from softball, the sport that she loved, and landed her in the hospital.

Hawaii's head softball coach gave Tjaden the opportunity to stay involved in the sport she loved, offering her a team manager position.

Something that Tjaden says has helped her smoothly transition from the diamond to the dugout.
