WAIMANALO, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu police opened a murder investigation over the weekend after a 52-year-old man died in a fight in Waimanalo Saturday afternoon.
Police said the suspect – 46-year-old Sean Kamaiopili -- and the victim – identified by the Medical Examiner's Office as Randolf Kamaiopili -- were involved in a physical confrontation shortly after 3:30 p.m.
The Honolulu-Star Advertiser reported that Sean Kamaiopili got into a fight with Randolf Kamaiopili, his older brother, during a boxing match. Both individuals were wearing gloves.
Randolf Kamaiopili was transported to an area hospital where his condition deteriorated, according to HPD. An autopsy has been scheduled Monday to determine his official cause of death.
Police arrested Sean Kamaiopili at the Castle Medical Center at 9:30 p.m. Saturday for first-degree assault and several contempt warrants. The case was reclassified to second-degree murder at 5:30 a.m. Sunday.
Sean Kamaiopili was released Monday afternoon pending investigation.
