The Hawaiian Word of the Day is ahuula.
Ahuula is the Hawaiian name for cloaks made from the feathers of various native Hawaiian birds. These cloaks were made from hundreds of thousands of feathers gathered from endemic birds, tied into bundles, and then fastened to a very fine netting.
Ahuula were worn by the highest ranking chiefs in Hawaii as a symbol of their stature within society and their spiritual power.
