Honolulu police say a 32-year-old man driving an SUV lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a utility pole on Waipahu Street around 2:30 a.m. Thursday.

The debris and dangling lines were spread out across both lanes of the street. Police say the driver was coming downhill around the bend near the Waipahu Free Will Baptist Church when he also slammed into a steel barrier and a sign before the vehicle came to a rest.

The driver was not seriously hurt and refused treatment at the scene, according to police.

HPD opened a motor vehicle collision incident report.

Police say alcohol was not involved.

Waipahu Street is closed between Amokii and Awamoi Streets, and drivers are being detoured around the area.

The Hawaiian Electric Company says there is no related power outage. HECO crews will continue making repairs throughout the day, so drivers should expect the roads to remain closed.
