PUNA, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Honolulu FBI agents are searching for a 9-year-old Colorado girl who is believed to be with her noncustodial father on the Big Island.

According to the FBI, on March 22, Brian Donald Kirk, 57, took temporary custody of Brianne Kirk so he could take her on a trip to the Big Island for her spring break vacation. On March 24, Brian texted the girl's mother, informing her that they were flying to Kona to go camping at a vacant lot near 15-1982 20th Ave in Keaau.

Brian was supposed to return Kirk to her mother by March 30, but that never happened and his cell phone has been off since.

The FBI believes they are both still on the Big Island among Brian's friends and family.

Brianne is described as a white female, no taller than 4'5” with brown eyes and brown hair.

Brian is described as a white male, standing at 6 feet and weighing approximately 185 pounds. He also has brown eyes and brown hair.

A warrant has been issued for his arrest in Colorado.

“The FBI has no reason to believe that Brian intends to harm Brianne, but we are seeking the public's help in locating them to ensure Brianne's safety and reunite her with her mother,” FBI Special Agent Tom Simon said. “Whatever differences that exist between parents should be sorted out in family court and not handled in this manner.”

Anyone with information should call the Honolulu FBI at (808) 566-4300.
