2-alarm house fire in Makaha displaces 10 people

MAKAHA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Honolulu Fire Department is investigating a two-alarm fire that displaced 10 people Monday morning on Jade Street in Makaha.

More than 30 firefighters arrived on scene at 94-107 Jade St at 8:25 a.m. where they found a one-story single family home engulfed in flames. The fire also spread to a neighboring one-story single family home. 

According to HFD officials, one adult female and one child were at home at the time of the fire, but were both able to escape uninjured. The second home was unoccupied.  

The fire damage to both properties have been estimated at $220,000 apiece for a total of $440,000 property loss for both structures and their contents. Both homes were heavily damaged and are considered to be a total loss.

Fire crews were able to bring the fire under control by 9:10 a.m. 

Police closed off westbound lanes of Farrington Highway as a result of the fire. 

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
