WAIPAHU, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Overnight embers and windy conditions helped rekindle a persistent brush fire near Waipahu Intermediate School over the weekend, but firefighters finally extinguished it on Sunday afternoon.

Nearly 30 firefighters were first able to contain the fire, near Pupuole Street, within a few hours when it sparked Saturday afternoon. But the fire started to burn again around noon on Sunday.

Approximately five acres of brush was burned, HFD said.

No structures were damaged and there were no evacuations.

No injuries were reported.
