HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Former University of Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota has been selected by the Tennessee Titans with the second overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Mariota, the 2014 Heisman Trophy winner and Saint Louis School graduate, is expected to leave Honolulu this evening and attend an afternoon press conference in Nashville on Friday.

"He's a talented young man who has a very good feel for the position and how to process those things," Whisenhunt said, "and we're excited to get a chance to work with him," said Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt.

"I mean it's tough to really put all the emotions into words. It was a lot of excitement. I was able to talk to coach Whisenhunt and a lot of the rest of the Tennessee Titan coaching staff.. They were really excited so, it's a ways away from home but I'm excited this will be a lot of fun and I'm just blessed to have the opportunity," said Mariota after his draft.

Former Florida State University quarterback Jameis Winston was selected by Tampa Bay with the first pick in the draft.

Winston and Mariota were considered by many as the two best quarterback prospects in the draft, though many believed Winston's experience in an NFL-style offense at FSU made him more prepared for early success in professional football.

It was the sixth time since 1967 that quarterbacks went 1-2.
