LIHUE, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A non-metallic knife that was “artfully concealed” was discovered Monday during a pat-down at the Lihue Airport, according to Transportation Security Administration officials.

The Garden Island newspaper reported that a 72-year-old Oregon man was traveling from Kauai to Honolulu and was selected for additional screening at the security checkpoint.

TSA agents felt a "suspicious item" -- a 7-inch blade -- on the passenger in which he voluntarily surrendered.

Law enforcement personnel then came over, but did not arrest him since they said he did not commit a crime.

A TSA spokesman said the man couldn't specify the knife's material, but said it appears to be a commercial product and was not homemade.

The man was then able to board the airplane along with his spouse and another couple he was traveling with, according to the Garden Island.

Although he was not charged with a crime, the man could potentially face monetary fines.

The TSA reminds the public that all knives are prohibited from being transported on yourself or carry-on bags. Concealed knives can lead to arrests and fines.
