Magnitude-6.8 quake hits Papua New Guinea, no tsunami threat to Hawaii

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A powerful earthquake struck an area of Papua New Guinea early Thursday, but it was not strong enough to generate a tsunami threat to Hawaii, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

The magnitude-6.8 quake occurred at approximately 12:45 a.m. HST.

There were no reports of any damage.
