Wind Advisory issued for Maui, Big Island; gusts could reach 50 mph

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory, which is in effect from 6 p.m. Tuesday until  to 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to the following locations. On the Big Island. Kamuela, Kawaihae, and saddle Road. In Maui County, Lanai City, Kahului, Maalaea, and Lahaina.

Forecasters say the winds will be out of the northeast at 25 to 35 mph with gusts over 50 mph. 

Main areas for the strongest winds will be over and around mountainous terrain. 

A Wind Advisory means that sustained winds of at least 30 mph or gusts of at least 50 mph, are expected. Motorists should use extra caution.
