This week's hot tourism dram - lava. The big lava lake means long lines to park at Volcanoes National Park. Big Island arrivals are up 12%, so there are more people TO go. Best way to avoid the crowds is to go late at night. The park is open around the clock and crowds thin out after 10pm. The closest and best viewing of the lava is on the Jaggar Museum observation deck.

New this morning - the annual census of Hawaii startups - High Tech Development Corporation reports more than 90 local incubator companies added 214 million dollars to the economy in 2014.

The Naval Facilities Engineering Command at Pearl awards Insight Pacific 21 million in work on the renovation of the Air Mobility Command passenger terminal at Hickam.

We're used to mainlanders telling us Hawaii is best or worst in various rankings. BankRate.com says for car insurance we're in the middle, 21st, and 7% below the national average. Big Island rates 10% above the state average - Kauai rates 13% lower.
