Police investigate woman's death in Puna

Big Island police are investigating the death of a 50-year-old woman in the Fern Acres subdivision in Puna.

At about 10:46 a.m. Monday (April 27), police received a call of an unresponsive woman on Plumeria Street. Responding officers contacted detectives after observing what appeared to be a suspicious injury. Detectives from the Area I Juvenile Aid Section responded to the scene to continue the investigation.

Medics took the victim to Hilo Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 12:05 p.m.

The case has been classified as a coroner's inquest.

No arrests have been made but police have not ruled out foul play. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday (April 28) to determine the exact cause of death.
