No tsunami threat to Hawaii following 7.8 quake in Nepal

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The powerful earthquake that hit Nepal did not pose a tsunami threat to Hawaii, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. 

The quake was measured at a magnitude of 7.8. 

Officials say the depth of the quake was 11 miles, and occurred 22 miles east of Lamjung, Nepal.  

Nepal is a country landlocked between Tibet (China) to the north and India to the south, east and west.

The earthquake happened around 8:30 p.m. HST.
