HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Hawaii Bankers Association is hoping to continue the Hawaii Foodbank's fight against hunger.

They're hosting a food drive with the help of community members.

Banks have been participating for seven years so far and 2015 marks their eighth consecutive year.

“In total, the Foodbank is feeding 300,000 residents in Hawaii. And about 50,000 of them are keiki and the other 50,000 are seniors. So they really need our help and the banks are really, very pleased and proud to be able to collect donations of food and cash for the Foodbank,” Edward Pei, executive director of the Hawaii Bankers Association said.

The organization is hoping to top their numbers from last year, which totaled to nearly 25,000 pounds of food and $70,000 in monetary donations.

Donors can drop off non-perishable items like tuna, rice or canned soup. They can also make monetary donations of five dollars or more, which will provide at least 12 meals for families in need.

Donations are being accepted at all 300 banking locations statewide from April 20 until May 30.
