HFD investigates apartment fire on Ward Avenue

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The Honolulu Fire Department is investigating a two-alarm apartment fire that happened Tuesday on Ward Avenue.

Firefighters were dispatched to 1520 Ward Avenue at approximately 10:40 a.m. They were able to extinguish the flames at around 10:50 a.m.

Officials said an elderly female, who lives in the unit where the flames broke out, needed Red Cross assistance. However, EMS services were not necessary.

Honolulu police closed off Ward Avenue, between Spencer and Prospect Streets, while authorities continued their investigation.

The HFD fire investigator determined that the fire was started accidentally in the kitchen and the damage has been estimated to be $20,000 to the structure and content. The American Red Cross is assisting the one displaced occupant. No injuries were reported.
