Hiker dies after 500 foot fall from Makapuu 'Tom-Tom' trail

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 27-year-old hiker has died after falling 500 feet from the Makapuu 'Tom-Tom' trail in east Oahu.

The trail is above Sea Life Park along Kalanianaole Highway.

The Honolulu Fire Department responded to a call of hikers in distress at about 12:45 p.m. According to HFD, the female hiker fell from the 'puka' section of the hike and was found unconscious at 1:26 p.m.

HFD transferred the hiker to EMS at 1:50 p.m. and she was pronounced dead at 2:12 p.m.

A second hiker was rescued from the ridgeline trail and was not injured.
