No tsunami threat to Hawaii after 6.8-magnitude earthquake shakes Fiji

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A strong earthquake has shaken an area near Fiji, but it was not strong enough to generate a tsunami threat to Hawaii, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

The quake was measured at a magnitude 6.8, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Officials say the depth of the quake was too deep to create a tsunami threat.

The earthquake happened at 6:05 a.m. HST.
