Flood Advisory issued for Big Island

KAILUA-KONA, HAWAII (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for portions of the Big Island until 7 p.m. At 4 p.m. radar showed heavy rain near Puuanahulu, or about 11 miles northeast of Kailua-Kona. 

The area of heavy rain has been nearly stationary but has expanded in area. Radars have shown rainfall rates of up to 3 inches per hour.Other locations in the advisory include but are not limited to Kailua-kona, Waikoloa Village, Waikoloa Beach Resort, Puako and Kawaihae.

This Flood Advisory replaces the previously issued advisory that was in effect for portions of the Island of Hawaii in Hawaii County. This advisory may need to be extended beyond 7 pm if heavy rain persists.
