A Hilo woman was arrested Saturday following a police chase and shooting.

Big Island police investigators said shortly before 4 p.m., 25-year-old Cherish Torres fled from a traffic stop while driving a stolen black Honda Civic down Lanikaula Street. She then hit another vehicle and a police car. Then, at the intersection of Kilauea Avenue and Haihai Street, she headed toward an officer on foot.

Investigators said the officer fired one shot.

The Honda then struck a police vehicle in pursuit, causing both cars to end up in a gulch.

Torres, who sustained minor injuries, was arrested for eight traffic offenses, two counts of first-degree criminal property damage, second-degree theft and first-degree terroristic threatening. She is being held at the Hilo police cellblock while detectives continue the investigation.
