HANA, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A 50-foot fishing vessel ran aground in waters off a Hana beach Friday night.

Hana fire crews received a call at 8:12 p.m. of a fishing vessel taking on water in waters off Koki Beach. Upon arrival, firefighters spotted the vessel, Mokulele, rocking back and forth in shallow water about 20 yards from shore.

Officials say two Makawao men, ages 25 and 28, were on board at the time of the incident.  Both swam to shore and were examined by paramedics. They sustained no injuries. The two men had spent the day fishing and were returning back to Maalaea harbor when they ran aground, according to MFD.

The vessel was reported to still have about 100 gallons of diesel on board. It's uncertain if there was a breach in the hull, however, fire crews could smell a strong odor of diesel fuel in the air.

The Coast Guard had been notified and is discussing environmental concerns and removal with the owner.
