HONOLULU (AP) - Eran Ganot has been named as the new coach for the Hawaii men's basketball team.

The university announced the hiring of Ganot, the associated head coach at St. Mary's College in California, at a Thursday morning news conference.

Ganot is familiar with Hawaii, serving with the Rainbow Warriors program in various roles from 2006 to 2010.

He inherits a troubled program. The former coach, Gib Arnold, was fired in late October, just weeks before the season was set to start, amid NCAA allegations.

The collegiate sports governing body alleges that Arnold acted unethically and knowingly influenced others to provide false or misleading information regarding violations during his tenure. Arnold has said he plans to fight the allegations and is seeking $1.4 million from the university.
