The Maui Police Department on Monday began a month-long study on the use of body cameras.

The Maui Police Deparmtent (MPD) has six cameras that it will use to conduct its research on the technology. According to police sources, the results of the study will help the department decide how to implement the use of body cameras on officers in the future.

Lawmakers are currently considering a bill that would provide $2.7 million to equip officers across the state with body cameras.
