MOLOAA BAY, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Officials with the Department of Land and Natural Resources and the United States Coast Guard are working on a plan to remove a 55-foot ketch that ran aground off of Moloaa Bay on Kauai.

Officials are not sure when the boat ran aground.

According to the DLNR, the vessel is on the reef in a secluded area and removing it to minimize damage may be a challenge.

They say the last known registered owner left Keehi Small Boat Harbor on Oahu earlier last week and may have ran out of fuel off of Molokai on March 25.

If the owner is not located, the Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation will step in to take possession and contract for removal.

Moloaa Bay is on the northeast side of Kauai.
