Triathlete found unconscious in waters off Big Island race course

BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Lava Man Triathlon participant is in critical condition after he was found unconscious in waters of Anaeho'omalu Bay Sunday morning. 

The 52-year-old race participant was found unconscious in the ocean during the swim portion of the Lava Man Triathlon at around 7:50 a.m. Ocean Safety crews brought the man to shore on a jet ski and started performing CPR on him. Officials were able to revive the man and transported him to the hospital in critical condition. 

The cause of the water accident is not known at this time. 

There were more than 50 water patrol personnel on site who were certified Emergency Medical Technicians.
