High Surf Advisory issued for rising surf on north shores

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A High Surf Advisory is in effect until 6 a.m. Monday for a rising northwest swell that's expected to peak Sunday night.

The advisory covers the north and west shores of Niihau and Kauai, and the north-facing shores of Oahu, Molokai and Maui.

Surf heights of 12 to 16 feet are forecast Sunday afternoon for Niihau and Kauai, with 10 to 15 foot waves for the north shores of Oahu, Molokai and Maui.

Beachgoers, swimmers and surfers should exercise caution and heed all advice from ocean safety officials.

Strong breaking waves, shore breaks and strong long shore and rip currents are possible, making swimming difficult and dangerous.
