PAHOA, Hawaii (AP) - Hawaii County Civil Defense is going to suspend its daily volcano eruption updates.

The agency says the daily assessments and eruption updates will be suspended starting Saturday. The agency will continue to monitor the lava flow.

The agency says it is suspending the updates because of ongoing decreased downslope lava activity. The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory on Wednesday downgraded the threat level from warning to watch.

The lava from Kilauea volcano emerged from a vent in June and entered Pahoa Oct. 26, when it crossed a country road at the edge of town. Lava smothered part of a cemetery and burned down a garden shed and a house. It also burned tires, some metal materials and mostly vegetation in its path.
