11 year old Chelsey Dungca was swimming with her friends and family last July.
It was a typical summer day at the Coronado pool at Ewa by Gentry when her friend noticed something on the bottom about 6 feet deep. It was a 5 year old boy named James.
"She was like she had a panicked kind of voice. I dived down to where he was. The first time I tried to grab him by his hands, but he slipped. So I tried again and that time I carried his whole body up and I passed him to my aunties who did CPR."
Emergency responders say that Chelsey stayed calm for the entire ordeal and even called 911 to alert them to the situation.
Councilman Ron Menor acknowledged her brave act by presenting her with an honorary certificate in September. It's also why she is being recognized as the Red Cross Youth Hero of the Year.
