Kauai firefighters rescue 32 stranded hikers

KALALAU, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

More than 30 stranded hikers were rescued from the Kalalau Valley Wednesday evening after rising waters made the Hanakapiai Stream impassable.

The Kauai Fire Department said at approximately 5 p.m., a hiker – who was able to cross the stream and make it back to the trailhead – notified personnel about the stranded hikers. Firefighters were able to airlift all 32 hikers back to the Kee Beach landing zone shortly thereafter.

No injuries were reported.
