2 men injured after van crashes into telephone pole in Kaneohe

KANEOHE, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Kamehameha Highway was reopened shortly after 1 p.m.

Authorities say two men were injured when their van veered off Kamehameha Highway and slammed into a telephone pole between Waihee Road and Wailehua Road.

The two victims were taken to a nearby medical facility.

The van was traveling southbound and authorities did not comment on whether speed or alcohol could have been contributing factors.

Hawaiian Telcom has sent crews to assess and repair the damage.

No cables were severed, but the pole was severely damaged according to Hawaiian Telcom.

Authorities are still on scene and waiting to extract the van.

Honolulu police have closed a portion of Kamehameha Hwy. in both directions due to a downed pole in Kaneohe. 

The road is closed between Waihee Rd. and Wailehua Rd.
