Fallen tree causes power outage for 300 customers in Diamond Head area

HECO crews have restored power to 270 customers.

Some 300 customers lost electricity early Friday morning when a large kiawe tree fell on power lines on Diamond Head Road, sparking a small fire, according to the Hawaiian Electric Company.

HECO responded to the outage which happened at around 2 a.m., and crews are currently on scene making repairs.

Honolulu police closed Diamond Head Road -- from Leahi Beach to Park to Coconut Avenue -- where the tree fell.
