A homeless man was arrested after getting into an altercation with two men over sleeping space and slashing both of them with a hatchet early Thursday morning, according to the Honolulu Police Department.

Police said the male victims, ages 52 and 54, were near the corner of Hotel Street and Nuuanu Avenue at around 2 a.m., looking for a place to sleep after spending time hanging out and drinking in the area. The suspect, 64-year-old Norman Coldron, initiated a fight with the two men and injured both of them with a hatchet.

The 52-year-old was taken to the Queen's Medical Center in stable condition, and the 54-year-old suffered a superficial cut to the elbow and was treated on scene.

Police arrested Coldron for second-degree assault. His bail is set at $20,000.
