Water temporarily shut off for central Hilo customers

HILO, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - Central Hilo customers will temporarily be without water from 10 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Saturday.

The Department of Water Supply will shut off water service for customers located along Waianuenue Avenue, Komohana Street, lower Kaumana Drive and most side streets in between to change a broken main valve. A more detailed map of the affected area is available at www.hawaiidws.org.

Upon resumption of water service, the waterlines will be flushed and cleaned during which time users may notice turbid and/or discolored water. Customers may also notice trapped air in plumbing, which will be released as they initially use water.

Affected customers are asked to take any and all precautions necessary to protect the customers' property and facilities including, but not limited to, disabling electrical power to pumps and/or any other devices whose normal operation may be dependent on water pressure and/or water supply, and which might be harmed if automatically energized during the water shut-off.
