PEARL HARBOR (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Hundreds of invasive black carpenter ants have turned up at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard.

The Department of Agriculture said the carpenter ants were in two shipping containers full of wooden beams sent from Tennessee.

The ants are larger than Hawaiian carpenter ants and have a voracious appetite for wood.

State experts applied bug poison and plan to fumigate the containers.
