Woman suing Oregon hospital over misplaced brain tumor

A woman filed a lawsuit against Oregon Health and Science University, claiming that doctors somehow misplaced a tumor removed from her brain.

The suit states that Catherine Stewart went to the hospital in 2013 to have the tumor removed.

Doctors were supposed to perform a biopsy on the tumor once it was removed, but according to Stewart, the hospital lost the tumor and it was never tested.

Because the tumor was lost, doctors were not able to determine if it was malignant or benign, meaning Stewart must now undergo routine testing to find out if the tumor is growing back.

If the tumor returns, Stewart will likely need surgery again.

Stewart is suing the hospital for negligence and asking for $900,000.

OHSU said it is unable to comment on the case because of privacy laws.
