HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - [Update 3/5 at 5:15 a.m.]
The Flash Flood Watch has expired.
A Flash Flood Watch is in effect until 6 a.m. Thursday for Maui and the Big Island.
The National Weather Service in Honolulu says that a 'shortwave trough' is dragging in a deep area of moisture and providing unstable conditions across Maui and the Big Island. This will result in the potential for heavy flooding rainfall and thunderstorms over both islands through Wednesday night.
The highest threat areas will be over the windward sides of Maui and The Big Island due to the trade wind flow. Excessive runoff may result in rock and mudslides in steep terrain.
