Honolulu police investigate critical pedestrian accident in Kapahulu

KAPAHULU, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Honolulu police closed off a portion of Kapahulu Avenue near Rainbow Drive-In Friday morning to investigate a critical pedestrian accident.

According to HPD, a mustang was traveling southbound in the far right lane at around 3:30 a.m. when the 62-year-old driver spotted a man standing in the middle of the road. Despite trying to avoid the man, he ended up hitting him.

The 35-year-old pedestrian was taken to the hospital in serious condition, but is now in critical condition with possible head injuries, police said.

Police reopened Kapahulu Avenue at around 7:30 a.m.
