HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Is there another suspect in the brutal attack against a Kalihi mother and her two children?
Hawaii News Now has learned that the man arrested, then released, named someone else for the crime, and the victim also provided details on that person.
The attorney for 34-year old Brandon Lorenz says his client turned himself into police hours after the attack because he knew they were looking to talk to him.
"In this situation, because he's the ex-boyfriend, very clearly he's going to be on the short list of suspects," says his attorney Marcus Landsberg, "For that reason, when the word came out that they wanted to interview people... Mr. Lorenz... went to the police station."
48 hours later, he was released, without his cell phone, which was taken by police.
28-year old Megan Isomura told me, by phone Thursday, that her condition is improving. She had been stabbed more than 10 times.
Her 8-year old girl shielded her 7-year old brother from the knife-wielding attacker, but both were still stabbed multiple times too.
It happened early Monday morning as all three slept in their Kalihi apartment.
Isomura tells me the children are also improving, but she hasn't been able to see them because Child Protective Services now has custody of them and a third child, a toddler Lorenz and Isomura have together. That third child was not in the apartment the morning of the attack, she was staying with the grandmother.
"This is the mother of his child, and he obviously doesn't want anything bad to happen to her or the other two children who he has a prior relationship with," says the attorney, "So he's very, very concerned about that."
It's unclear if police have found that other person yet.
