LIHUE, Hawaii (AP) - An engineer with Kauai's water department is agreeing to settle his age discrimination lawsuit against the county for $125,000.
Dustin Lee Moises sued the county in 2013, alleging he was discriminated against for being too young. The suit says that in 2010, Moises was told he should not get a higher salary because of his age.
Now 33, Moises says the settlement provides validation.
First Deputy County Attorney Steve Hall says the county doesn't admit any liability or wrongdoing by agreeing to the settlement.
The Garden Island reported Thursday that terms of the settlement also include requiring the county to conduct discrimination training for department heads and supervisors.
Department of Water manager and chief engineer Kirk Saiki says the case didn't interfere with the quality of Moises' work.
