UH men's hoops team falls short at UC-Davis

DAVIS, Calif. - Stefan Jankovic scored a career-high 21 points but the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Warrior basketball team couldn't fight off a second-half Aggie surge in a 74-67 loss to UC Davis on Saturday night at The Pavilion.

Garrett Nevels added 19 points for the 'Bows (18-11, 6-7 BWC) including a three-pointer to put his team in front 51-41 three minutes into the second half. Nevels was hot from beyond the arc, nailing four of his six three-point attempts.

Tyler Les was the difference maker for the Aggies, who's lone conference loss remains a 78-72 defeat to Hawai'i at the Stan Sheriff Center. Les scored 28 points, hitting 9-13 all from three-point land. Avery Johnson added 14 points, two blocks, and two steals.

The 'Bows erased a 13-point deficit in the first half, going on a 21-6 run over the final 7:27 to take a two-point lead heading to the break. The momentum continued into the second half with an early 8-0 run to give the 'Bows their largest lead of the game of 10 points.

UCD (21-4, 11-1 BWC) rallied to tie the game but a Nevels three-pointer gave the 'Bows back the lead with under 10 minutes to play. UH shooting went cold down the stretch as a 14-0 Aggie run near the finish line doomed the 'Bows.

Hawai'i now returns home and will play Long Beach State on Thursday, February 26. Tip off at the Stan Sheriff Center is set for 7:00 p.m.
