HONOLULU (AP) - The Hawaii House of Representatives is welcoming its newest member.
Rep. Lynn DeCoite was sworn into office on Friday to succeed Rep. Mele Carroll, who resigned last month for health reasons and died Wednesday.
Gov. David Ige appointed DeCoite to represent the 13th District, which includes East Maui, Molokai and Lanai.
DeCoite called the occasion of her swearing-in a bittersweet day. She says Carroll was not just her representative; she was her friend and her family.
DeCoite says she knows she has big shoes to fill and she is up to the task.
She lives on Molokai and is a farmer who owns L&R Farm Enterprises and R.J.'s Snacks.
