HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The parent company of Hawaii-based fashion retailer Hilo Hattie has filed for bankruptcy protection.
Records show the filing by Pomare Ltd. was its second bankruptcy protection filing in seven years.
The company filed for Chapter 11 reorganization in U.S. Bankruptcy Court last night, listing debts of between $10 million and $50 million, Hawaii News Now has learned.
The move comes days after Hilo Hattie closed retail outlets in Kihei, Kona and Hilo. About 60 people lost their jobs as a result of the closing.
Attorney for Pomare said the company plans to emerge from bankruptcy and retain its remaining 100 workers.
The company currently has stores operating in Lahaina on Maui, Lihue on Kauai, and at Ala Moana Center and along Nimitz Highway on Oahu.
