Big Island burn victim dies days after domestic dispute

KAILUA-KONA, HAWAII (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A 55-year-old man who suffered third-degree burns after a domestic dispute on the Big Island died late Wednesday night on Oahu.

Kona police officers said Ghenghis Khan Kaaihue's 53-year-old estranged wife found him with another woman Sunday at Kahaluu Beach Park. They then got into a struggle and then doused herself and her husband in gasoline. She then used a lighter to spark the fire.

The husband and wife were taken to Kona Community Hospital in critical condition with third-degree burns and then flown to Straub Clinic and Hospital on Oahu.

Honolulu police said Ghenghis Khan Kaaihue died at around 11:15 p.m. Wednesday. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine his exact cause of death. His wife remains hospitalized in critical condition and faces a second-degree murder charge.
