HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A new west-northwest swell will arrive on Thursday, bringing surf to advisory levels for some Hawaiian islands.
The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a High Surf Advisory for the following:
In effect from 12 p.m. Thursday until 6 a.m. Saturday:
- North and west shores of Niihau and Kauai
- Surf will reach 15 to 20 feet on north and west-facing shores Thursday afternoon, building to 18 to 24 feet Thursday evening through Friday night.
In effect from 4 p.m. Thursday until 6 a.m. Saturday:
- North and west shores of Oahu and Molokai
- North shores of Maui
- Surf will reach 10 to 15 feet for north-facing shores Thursday evening, building to 12 to 18 feet on Friday. For west-facing shores, surf will reach 8 to 12 feet Thursday evening, building to 10 to 15 feet on Friday.
Forecasters said strong breaking waves, shore break and longshore and rip currents will make swimming difficult and dangerous.
