Pedestrian critically hurt in Waianae crash

WAIANAE, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 58-year-old man is in critical condition after being hit by a vehicle in West Oahu Monday night, Honolulu police said.

The man was walking in a marked crosswalk on Farrington Highway near Maiuu Road around 6 p.m. when a 52-year-old woman driving a gold Chevy SUV hit him.

A witness at the scene said he heard a loud bang and then screaming that came from the woman driving the SUV.

"I just heard screaming. So I when run out on the road, hop the fence, and then had everybody.  And had one lady catching her panic attack so I had to help her out then the guy couldn't move so I when grab one towel from her car and put um on top him," said Justin Jocson.

Jocson says the woman driver was the only one in the vehicle and says she did stop to talk to police.

Police shutdown both westbound lanes on Farrington Highway near "Makaha Surfside" and started contraflowing traffic on the eastbound side of the highway.

The victim was taken to the Queen's Medical Center in critical condition. His name has not been released.
