HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu firefighters battled two separate fires on Oahu Sunday evening, including one at an apartment as well as a dumpster fire.

Residents in a small McCully high rise were evacuated after a small fire broke out at around 5:45 p.m. Fire officials said a woman in a fifth-floor apartment on Alexander Street fell asleep with a pot on the burner. That ignited something plastic on the stovetop which activated the building's sprinklers and alarm system.

Nearly 40 firefighters extinguished the fire after arriving on scene at about 6 p.m.

Damages are estimated at $400.

Crews also responded to a dumpster fire in the parking lot of the Pearl City library on Waimano Home Road at 7 p.m. HFD said the dumpster was full of roofing material which caused the huge flames. The library, which has been closed for a major renovation, wasn't damaged.

No injuries were reported in either incidents.
