LIHUE, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Kauai Fire Department's Ocean Safety Bureau is encouraging interested individuals to apply to become a lifeguard for the County of Kauai.
"We currently have vacancies for lifeguard positions and we are actively hiring qualified applicants to join our Ocean Safety team. Now is the time for interested individuals to apply," says Kalani Vierra, the Ocean Safety Bureau Supervisor.
The duty of a lifeguard is to protect lives, prevent accidents, and assist people in distress on at assigned stations on guarded beaches.
Applicants must possess a valid motor vehicle license know how to swim, water rescue lifesaving techniques, and emergency life support procedures.
They must also be able to swim long distances, effectively use lifesaving equipment, rescue persons from the water, and administer artificial respiration and/or CPR.
Candidates must be able to meet health and physical condition standards which includes passing performance tests consisting of a variety of swim and rescue events.
