PAHOA, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - A newly renovated Malama Market will open in Pahoa on Wednesday, March 18 after being closed for three months, company officials announced Friday. Malama Market Pahoa closed on Dec. 18, 2014 due to the impending lava flow and all products, equipment and fixtures were completely removed.
The grocery store is now in the process of cleaning, refurbishing equipment, renovating fixtures and moving back in to its original 10,000 square foot space.
"We are so grateful to be able to reopen Malama Market Pahoa and serve the community again," said Jenai S. Wall, Chairman and CEO of the Sullivan Family of Companies. "And we are working with our partners Aloha Petroleum to reopen Malama Gas N Go on the same day," continued Wall. "Our employees are eager to return to the store and welcome back their loyal customers. We want to thank the Hawaii County Civil Defense team for their support and guidance over the last several months. We also extend our sincere gratitude to the Pahoa community for their patience during our closing, and hope our new store will make them pleased and proud," added Wall.
Malama Market Pahoa will be completely reset and re-merchandised. More than 70 former employees will return to the store when it reopens.
The store will open at 10 a.m. following an employee rally and store blessing.
