Miss America 2001 launches memoir about fairy tale beginnings…and endings

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Angela Perez Baraquio, the first Asian-American and first teacher to be crowned Miss America in 2001, breaks her silence in her first book, Amazing Win, Amazing Loss . . . Miss America Living Happily, EVEN After.

Hawai'i welcomes her home with a book signing and media meet and greet at Na Mea Hawai'i Native Books in Ward Centers on Saturday, February 14, 2015 from 3pm-5pm. Meet O'ahu-born, small-town island teacher and basketball coach turned national figure. Angela will share a reading from her "fairy-tale" adventure?complete with romance, twists, horrors, shattered dreams?and dreams that came true. Hear about how Angela faced fears, abandonment, her brother's suicide, and the 9/11 tragedy in the public eye with grace and dignity. She now shares with others how they can handle life's challenges too.
